The Principal is the Secretary to the Board of Governors. The institute (ASMTTI) is a public technical and vocational training institution, established under the Ministry of Education, State Department for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (SDTVET). The institution was registered in the year 2016 and opened its doors to trainees in various programmes in September 2017.

Ahmed Shahame Mwidani Technical Training Institute offers CBET courses at Artisan, Craft and Diploma levels, plus a variety of short-courses in the part-time programmes. All the courses offered at Craft Certificate and Diploma levels incorporate Entrepreneurship Training, ICT and Industrial Attachment to prepare the trainees for formal and self-employment. Examining bodies include; The Kenya National Examinations council (KNEC), Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Curriculum Development, Accreditation and Certification Council (CDACC) and in the near future International Computer Driving License (ICDL). Ahmed S. Mwidani Technical Training Institute is a member of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) and CAPA amongst others.
